A Letter to my Brother
Anthony, my beloved brother, your passing has left me missing you dearly. Passing on Feb 7, 2024 on Grenada’s 50th Independence Anniversary is truly poetic as great artists tend to be.
I have always been proud to call you my brother! How many people can say their brother designed their country’s national flag or that their brother has a street named after him, “Anthony C. George Road.” I am proud beyond words!
You raised a beautiful family with love, respect and compassion. The same love that you’ve always shown me. At about 5 years old, I remember riding our donkey to school every day with you accompanying us. You placed me in the front, Bernard in the middle and Michael at the back. You told me, ‘ladies do not open their legs to ride.’ So I had to ride with both legs on the same side of the donkey while you walked on the side of us. The first time I was terrified of not keeping my balance, but I soon perfected it. This simple gesture of referring to me as a lady, made me feel loved and cared for by you and has remained with me until today. Since our mom had already passed, you filled the role of always making me feel like a special young lady and helping me grow to become one.
Tony growing up together we shared many great times together. You took me almost everywhere with you, you treated me like a Princess. I remember a time you spent several hours sketching me. You made me feel so special. It is a core memory that will stick with me forever. I could never forget your bravery when you saved me, papa and Michael from our vessel wreckage as we set off for Carriacou. I’m still amazed by how you seen the wreckage from a mile and a half away and got to us so quickly. Or the times when you would scare the sharks away with your ore on our Sunday boat rides. As a little girl, 9 years your junior, I felt that sharks couldn’t harm us.
I fondly remember how you had your younger siblings praying for hours everyday after dinner while Papa was in the shop and Lio was downstairs making cook with the boys. My little knee hurt, but I still cherish the memories. I also remember your smiling face each time you came first at our Sunday
Regatta’s well organized by you and Lio with the handmade model boats Lio made for all the participants. I’ll also always remember all the great music you’ve shared with me over the years. On my last visit to see you, you had your son Raymond tape some beautiful music from your collection for me. I will always be grateful for those memories. Tony the good times kept coming and not stopping. But I will stop the words for now and always keep you alive in my heart.
Farewell my dear Brother! Say hi to Momma and Papa for me. From your only sister Laurel Eileen George Pierre.
I am so proud and privileged that you are my godfather, and I, your godson. The memories of you and the family being together growing up and sharing so many great moments, are forever in my mind and my heart. I and everyone are extremely proud of who you are to us and what you have achieved in life. On behalf of my family, God bless you and your entire family. You are in eternal paradise. Love always….Your Godson.

Uncle Tony, you are so missed by everyone. I know you are looking down from heaven at all of us. I really hope you can see how much you truly are loved. I am so proud to call you my Uncle. I have such fun memories of you, but more importantly are my Mom’s memories of you. You meant the world to her. She was a little girl without a Mother and even though you were in the same boat, you were selfless at such a young age and helped to fill that void for her. Her memories of you and the stories she has share with me along the years have always influence my feelings for you as a human being. Today, your life is being celebrated, please have a front row seat from heaven and enjoy how we honor you and listen to the impact and differences you made in each one of our lives. You are blessed and we love you( I love you very much). Your Niece, Lauralee.

My deepest condolences to the family of the late Anthony George. I well remember his quiet support and encouragement during my sojourn as High Commissioner for Grenada to the Court of St. James. In particular, I recall the Diaspora Engagement all over the UK when he would join us together with his wife as we boarded the coach to engage Grenadians, first, second and future generations to embrace their homeland. I also remember visits I made to his home in Grenada and how he entertained with whatever was available at the time. He is a true sun of the soil and I will always cherish his memory, as the red, green and gold unfurls.
My Condolences to to Mr. Anthony George’s entire family and Friends! May God Console you all at this sorrowful time! Eternal Rest unto him!
