Although I haven’t had the honour of meeting Mr Alleyne, I have had the honoured opportunity to get to know his Son Roger recently, as they say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Clearly Mr Alleyne was a man of great stature in his community and a loving father. I prey all your family have a peaceful day on Thursday full of beautiful memories.

  18. When Great Trees Fall
    Maya Angelou

    When great trees fall,
    rocks on distant hills shudder,
    lions hunker down
    in tall grasses,
    and even elephants
    lumber after safety.

    When great trees fall
    in forests,
    small things recoil into silence,
    their senses
    eroded beyond fear.

    When great souls die,
    the air around us becomes
    light, rare, sterile.
    We breathe, briefly.
    Our eyes, briefly,
    see with
    a hurtful clarity.
    Our memory, suddenly sharpened,
    examines,
    gnaws on kind words
    unsaid,
    promised walks
    never taken.

    Great souls die and
    our reality, bound to
    them, takes leave of us.
    Our souls,
    dependent upon their
    nurture,
    now shrink, wizened.
    Our minds, formed
    and informed by their
    radiance,
    fall away.
We are not so much maddened
as reduced to the unutterable ignorance
    of dark, cold
    caves.

    And when great souls die,
    after a period peace blooms,
    slowly and always
    irregularly. Spaces fill
    with a kind of
    soothing electric vibration.
    Our senses, restored, never
to be the same, whisper to us.
    They existed. They existed.
We can be. Be and be
    better. For they existed.

  19. Our prayers and condolences are with Sonia, Roger, Paul, Terry and all the family. We are so sorry for your loss.

  22. I was privileged to have had the honour to call the late Arnold Chesterfield, Father-in-law. He was the most gracious Father-in-law ever, he was the only Grandfather to my children, and Great Grandfather to their Children. We will always love and respect him.

Though we are sad to see him go, we are grateful for the time we shared with this precious man. He left a lasting impact on all of us, with his warmth and calm demeanour. His memory will forever be cherished.

I have so many fond memories of Dad, but my fondest recent memory was when we were celebrating his 94th birthday, and I asked Dad how old he was? He said he was 49 years old. That is how sharp and humorous he was.
    Rest in heavenly peace Dad
