John was born in Co. Galway Ireland in a small rural village. He was the third born child of a family of 6 to Mary Ellen and Thomas Hernon. John’s pride in his Irish roots and connection with and love for his brothers and sisters and their families has endured for his entire life.
He came to London in 1959 and built a very happy and successful life there.
John married Elizabeth the love of his life in 1965. Their 57-year marriage was a true partnership built on love, trust, mutual respect and humour. They were always laughing together.
John was a wonderful father to his children Caroline, Michelle and James, father- in-law to Emyr and Jane and grandfather to his five granddaughters Megan, Ellen, Niamh, Caitlyn and Erin, who he adored.
John developed a love of golf and a real aptitude for the game in his fifties. He got great pleasure playing at Sudbury Golf Club with his treasured friends.
John had a remarkably kind nature and love of people. He was always there to help a friend or neighbour in need. He had a lovely sense of humour and was great company.
We invite you to join us to celebrate the life of John Anthony Hernon

I am sorry we couldn’t make it over to say goodbye to John and to thank you Elizabeth for the kindness and lovely way that you both welcomed me , Anne and Gerry into your home when we were much younger. My mother Mary really cared for John and loved it when you came to Musicfield. I hope Caroline, James and Michelle are ok, it is a sad time for you all. Take care Padraig Mallon
Fond memories of John growing up in Musicfield and cycling to Claremorris when he commenced work in Gilligans in the 50’s .Sincere Condolences to Elizabeth James Caroline Michelle Tommy Mary and all the Hernon Family on the sad passing of John.We enjoyed his last visit here in August 21 reminiscing on years gone by !!. It was wonderful to link in with you all for the celebration of John’s life . What a lovely tribute to your Dad . May He Rest in peace.
I will always have happy memories of working with John.
Rest in Peace old friend.
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Flash. He was a lovely man and I had the privilege to spend some very happy summer holidays in my late teens with my London cousins. Flash and Elizabeth were always so kind to me and treated me like a daughter and it was a very happy house to be in. We had lots of good times – Saturday nights in the Steps were a laugh (even if we did pretend at the time that we thought it was a place for oldies!) My heart-felt condolences to Elizabeth, Caroline, Michelle and James.
RIP.
Anne
